Originally known as the University of Washington Pavilion when it opened in 1927, the Huskies’ arena was named after longtime track and basketball coach Hec Edmundson in 1948. An Olympian in the 400 and 800 meters in 1912, Edmundson would guide UW to nearly 500 wins in his 27 seasons at the helm of the basketball program. With its brick exterior and unique windows lending to the building’s charm, “Hec Ed” has been recognized as one of the top basketball arenas in the nation.
