Southern Miss has used this helmet logo for roughly 20 years, with its first appearance in 2003. While the helmet is technically early 2000s vintage, their fight song, “Southern to the Top!” is quite a bit older. Written in 1955 by Robert Hays, the fight song encourages Golden Eagles fans to lift their voices high to cheer Southern Miss (you guessed it) “to the top!”
