The Band is Out On the Field Vintage Cal Football Tee

It’s one of the most famous plays in sports history, and certainly one of the most memorable calls from the booth. Now simply referred to as “The Play,” the Cal Bears utilized five lateral passes on a kickoff return as time expired to defeat John Elway and the Stanford Cardinal in the 85th “Big Game” on November 20, 1982. Thinking that time had expired, the Stanford band came marching on the California Memorial Stadium field to celebrate their team’s victory. Mayhem ensued as Cal’s Kevin Moen eventually bowled over Stanford trombone player Gary Tyrell in the end zone as Cal announcer Joe Starkey’s words rang out, “Oh, the band is out on the field! He's gonna go into the end zone! He got into the end zone! And the Bears! The Bears have won! The Bears have won! Oh, my God! The most amazing, sensational, dramatic, heart-rending...exciting, thrilling finish in the history of college football!”
