The Denver Rockets weren’t actually named after actual rockets or spacecraft. After the ABA announced the formation of the Denver Larks as one of its inaugural teams, the Larks were soon bought by the Ringsby Rocket Truck Line Company. The Rockets were known as such until 1974, until they were rebranded as the Denver Nuggets in preparation for a merger or sale to the NBA.
