James Madison has faced off against state rival Old Dominion on and off through the years, with the notable exception of football, where ODU made the jump to FBS football before JMU did. Once JMU joined the Sun Belt, both teams officially began competing in the Royal Rivalry Challenge, where the rival teams compete in all sports to claim an overall Royal Rivalry title.
