In 1954, Coastal Carolina Junior College was founded, and soon became part of the University of South Carolina system. By 1993, the university became an independent, four-year school, as enrollment rose and the institution flourished. Now, we know Coastal as an academic and athletic staple, with a national championship-winning baseball program and nationally recognized football team, among other achievements.
