The old block Purdue "P" is iconic, especially displayed prominently on the Old Oaken Bucket, the rivalry trophy Purdue football plays for every year against their archrivals, Indiana. Five years after the first rivalry game in 1920, the IU and Purdue alumni associations dreamt up what they called “the most typical Hoosier form of trophy” – a bucket straight from an Indiana farm well. The bucket features a bronze chain shaped in a series of block “I” and “P” letters, with new letters added based on who wins each year.
