The 1982-83 NC State men's basketball team earned a reputation as “The Cardiac Pack,” finding themselves in close contests throughout the season. They lived up to their nickname even in the team's 54-52 national championship win over Houston, when Lorenzo Charles caught and dunked a last-second air ball from Dereck Whittenburg.
