Axe 'Em, Jacks! This vintage, midcentury design is a lighthearted take on Stephen F. Austin's mascot, the Lumberjack. The Jacks have been known as such since the school's founding in 1923, when a special assembly of students voted on the mascot. Since you can't really bring an axe to most sporting events (that we know of), SFA's students use a two-finger hand sign held high in the air, which the cheer squad first brought to life in the late '70s.
