Since 1982, Kentucky basketball has marked the official allowed start date for practices with Big Blue Madness. First named “Midnight Special,” Joe B. Hall began the late-night tradition to help generate buzz for the 1982-83 team and season. Nicknames and themes for the event have evolved through the years, but the spirit of the event remains the same – to get Big Blue Nation ready for men’s and women’s hoops at UK.
