Sparty made his first appearance as a live mascot in 1955, when three Theta Xi fraternity brothers created his papier-mâché head. He was given a slight refresh when the mask was recreated in fiberglass in 1956 before being fully revamped into the cartoonishly ripped Sparty costume we know and love today.
