This Duke wordmark launched in 1992, and we incorporated the devil’s signature pitchfork with it. The Blue Devils’ name isn’t actually demonic – they’re named for a French WWI military unit called the Chasseurs Alpins, more famously known as les diables bleus (“the blue devils”). Though some were hesitant to adopt “Blue Devils” at first, the nickname gained steam around 1922. Brought to you in partnership with College Vault.
