The 1977 Badgers went 37-7-1, made a clean sweep of the Big Ten, the WCHA and the NCAA championships, and are known as one of the best college hockey teams ever. Steve Alley, the hero of the national championship game said, “I really think we were the greatest college hockey team in history. We had the best power play of all-time." Alley scored the game-winning goal 23 seconds into OT, defeating Michigan 6-5 in Detroit’s Olympia Stadium and cementing their place in Wisconsin hockey history. The famous photo of Alley’s celebration inspired the illustration of this Bucky used on Wisconsin tickets the following season.
