It’s the most famous shot in Indiana basketball history. Keith Smart’s shot from the baseline with four seconds remaining in the 1987 championship game gave the Hoosiers a 74-73 lead over Jim Boeheim and Syracuse at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. A desperation full court pass by Syracuse was also intercepted by Smart, giving the Hoosiers their fifth national title (and third in 12 years). Smart happily throwing the ball up in the air as time expires can now be seen every year in March Madness montages throughout the duration of the tournament.
