With their 1971 ABA title, the Utah Stars showed the world that Salt Lake City had a hunger for professional basketball. Fans appreciated the Stars through their five years, so much that before the ABA-NBA merger, the Spirits of St. Louis were slated to head to Utah to replace the disbanded Stars.
