In the 1960s, local pharmacist Frederic Foss—nicknamed “Mr. Golden” for his community service work around Golden, Colorado—began walking his burro to Mines football games. Students quickly adopted the burro as their live mascot, and “Blaster” was soon traveling with the team to away games. Today, Blaster the Burro continues to serve as a symbol of the determination and hard work of all Colorado School of Mines students while running down the field after every Oredigger touchdown.
