Boise State debuted these helmets in 2009, roughly two decades after their famous blue turf made headlines. Coincidentally, they also wore these helmets in 2011, when Boise State trademarked the phrase "Blue Turf," as it relates to their signature, non-green field. The trademark makes sense, since Boise State's turf is famous (or infamous if you ask the NFL, which instituted the "Boise State Rule" banning non-green turf colors in their stadiums).
