Led by legendary coach Pete Newell, the Cal Bears won four straight conference titles from 1957-1960 and made two straight national championship game appearances, winning it all in 1959. In the 1959 NCAA Final Four, the Golden Bears’ defensive style defeated two of the best guards in college basketball history in Cincinnati’s Oscar Robertson and West Virginia’s Jerry West to bring home Cal’s only national title.
