The Florida Gators’ classic mascot, Albert, is usually seen in costume or cartoon forms, like he is here on this vintage design. However, his namesake was a live mascot alligator that donor and alumnus Ross Allen gifted the university in 1957. Understandably, a live gator mascot program was not sustainable, leading to the prevalence of the friendlier Albert Florida fans have loved for generations.
