Long in search of a mascot that could embody the “Golden Flashes” nickname, Kent State finally settled on an eagle in 1985, citing the bird’s proud demeanor. Not only is he illustrated as a tough, no-nonsense bird (like he is in this cartoon we found on vintage memorabilia), he’s the hardest working eagle in the biz – on football game days, the student portraying Flash may be needed for up to 12 hours.
