Michigan State won the Big Ten in 1987, defeating conference powers Michigan and Ohio State and securing the title with a win over Indiana. Then came USC in the 1988 Rose Bowl, a team MSU had already beaten in the regular season. While their first tilt was more one-sided, the rematch was a thriller – after MSU kicked the eventual game-winning field goal, they recovered a USC fumble that would seal the deal.
