In 1986, Florida baseball assistant coach Dusty Rhodes was hired to help start the University of North Florida's baseball program. The first Ospreys baseball team took the field two years later in 1988. This vintage logo was used through the duration of Rhodes’ coaching tenure with the Ospreys, and it was at his request that the original Ospreys baseball logo bore resemblance to that of the New York Yankees.
