Penn State claims two national titles, 1982 and 1986. The 1982 team set the standard for Nittany Lions fans everywhere, when the team earned its first consensus national championship. Four years later, in what became known as the “Duel in the Desert,” No. 2 Penn State defeated No. 1 Miami, 14-10, in the Fiesta Bowl on January 2, 1987 in Tempe to win the 1986 national championship.
