With their “Hook ‘Em” sign, the University of Texas owns one of the most recognizable hand signals in the nation. It started in 1955 when head cheerleader Harley Clark demonstrated it at a pep rally before the TCU game. Meant to resemble the head and horns of the UT mascot, it caught on quickly and is now a staple at all Texas sporting events.
