In 1965, UCLA opened the doors of Pauley Pavilion, a new basketball facility built to replace the Men's Gym (aka, the "B.O. Barn"). While it was evident that the small Men's Gym needed replacement for about a decade, UCLA's 1964 men's basketball title spurred the project on--it took just over a year to complete the project. From there, John Wooden and the Bruins did their magic, winning nine more national titles under Wooden's tutelage. In 2003, the court was formally named for Nell and John Wooden, in remembrance of not only Wooden's accomplishments, but of his regular attendance at UCLA home games, even after his retirement, until the year he passed away.
