This classic Husky mascot was used in the 1960s, an exciting decade for the UConn men’s basketball team. The Huskies won six regular season conference championships (in the old Yankee Conference), but the highlight was their tournament run in 1964. UConn guard Dom Perno stole the ball from Princeton star Bill Bradley with 32 seconds left in the game to send the Huskies to the Elite 8 and their fans into a state of “Huskymania.” No doubt their popular UConn Husky fight song was sung many times that night. “UConn Husky, symbol of might to the foe/Fight, fight Connecticut, it’s victory, let’s go!”
