Fire Up Flames! UIC’s rallying cry and mascot, Sparky, are both based on the history of Chicago itself. UIC chose its Flames nickname after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Their mascot, Sparky, is said to have been born from the ashes of the fire, and he represents the city with pride. This design celebrates UIC’s many proud traditions, and incorporates the city skyline to bring it all together.
