One of the best Miami football traditions is the team running through the smoke as they come out of their locker room tunnel. It began in the 1950s, and in an attempt to drive fan interest, they used fire extinguishers to produce the now-famous smoke. At the 1992 Orange Bowl, (as the official home team) Nebraska requested that Miami not participate in their tradition. However, the Miami mascot snuck in a fire extinguisher to simulate the traditional smoke and fire the players up. The Hurricanes then ran over the Huskers 22-0 to win the national title.
