From 1971-81, the “Big Four” (aka Carolina, Duke, NC State and Wake Forest) played an annual basketball tournament in Greensboro. The tournament put the most intense rivalries in all of college sports under one roof – we’re sure you know, but none of these teams like each other. UNC won the tournament in 1977, after finishing the season prior as NCAA Tournament runners-up. The Tar Heels took down the Blue Devils and the Wolfpack for their only Big Four Tournament title.
