“Rocky Top,” the country/bluegrass hit by the Osborne Brothers in 1967 was first performed by the Pride of the Southland Band during the halftime of a football game against Alabama in 1972. The crowd at Neyland Stadium went crazy, and it soon became the unofficial fight song of the Volunteers and the official state song of the state of Tennessee. After a big win, the team’s quarterback leads the band in performing the song, with Peyton Manning popularizing the tradition. “Rocky Top, you'll always be, home sweet home to me.”
