The University of Tennessee band began playing in 1869 as a part of the school’s military program and became known as the “Pride of the Southland” in 1949. Before every home game in Knoxville, the band marches to the stadium through the heart of campus, playing “Rocky Top” almost the entire way. Fans and alumni love the Salute to “The Hill,” where the band stops at the oldest section of campus and pays tribute to the history and tradition of the university.

"On a practice field in Tennessee, a mud hole deep and wide..."

30 years ago, I *was* this guy on the shirt...I marched BD-7 (aka 'Big Bertha') up and down Shields-Watkins field in the Pride of the Southland! I love these shirts (ordered two XXL), and wear them frequently! Very comfortable, and a perfect way to demonstrate my love of the Big Orange, and for the band that Dr. W J Julian put on the map...the Pride of the Southland! (the title of my review is from the mangled lyrics band members sang to the tune of the UT alma mater)
