Inspired by the bison featured on the state seal of Indiana, IU’s student senate chose a bison to be the Hoosier mascot in October of 1965. The desire to have a live bison on the sidelines at football games was outweighed by the cost, so a costume was created. Unfortunately, because the bison costume was uncomfortable to wear, difficult to see through, and cheerleaders had to lead the person wearing it around with a rope, it only lasted four years before being discontinued. Despite the short mascot tenure, the football team saw some glorious days in the bison era. IU appeared in the AP poll in three consecutive years from 1967-1969, including the Hoosiers’ only Rose Bowl appearance in 1968.

Great retro look

Similar to the Nick’s bison, makes for a good addition to collection of IU logos. Soft as always and after 1 wash has the good worn look
