Vintage BSU Welcome to the Blue Tee
- Free exchanges
The most iconic symbol of Boise State has to be their blue field turf at Albertsons Stadium. It was installed in 1986 under the leadership of athletic director Gene Bleymaier with the intention of setting BSU apart by having a football field that represented their school colors (in combination with the orange track that surrounded the field). “The Blue” was the first non-green playing surface in football history, and remained the only one in FBS for almost 20 years. Lyle Smith Field is named after the “Father of Bronco Football,” a legendary figure for Boise State that coached for 20 years, pulled the program up from the junior college ranks, and put them on the path to their eventual FBS success.
