The Pirates started the decade strong, with a top ten national ranking to end the 1991 season after defeating NC State in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day 1992. The big wins didn’t stop there, with a Liberty Bowl victory over Stanford in 1995 and a win over the 13th-ranked Miami Hurricanes behind future NFL quarterback David Garrard in 1999.
