After hearing the iconic “Wah-Hoo-Wah” cheer at a baseball game in the 1890s, Washington and Lee University fans allegedly called their opponents “a bunch of rowdy Wahoos.” The nickname was adopted by the Cavaliers, eventually shortening to just “Hoos.” Brought to you in partnership with College Vault.
