It’s All About the U Miami T-Shirt

In 1973, UM knew that many schools were using those same two letters and wanted something to be done that would make Miami distinct. Graphic artist Bill Bodenhamer created the iconic green and orange split-U logo that did exactly what the university was hoping to achieve. Fast forward to 1980, when John Rought, the university mascot at the time, coined the phrase “It’s all about the U.” In 1992, a student-created the hand gesture for “throwing up the U.” Then came the famous intro song to ESPN’s 30 for 30 film “The U” by Uncle Luke (Luther Campbell) that celebrated the swagger of the Miami football team to cement the famous phrase in everyone’s head.
