In 1959, Syracuse football won their sole football National Championship decisively. The team shut out their opponents five times, and, led by eventual Heisman winner Ernie Davis, outscored their opponents 413 to 73. Their Cotton Bowl victory over Texas sealed the deal – ‘Cuse was voted consensus National Champion.
